1. I started babysitting at 10.
2. I cared for infant triplets, include 2 overnight several times. learned to prop 3 bottles, push a triple stroller, and manage three screaming babies at once.
3. I nannied for infants twins for several months right out of high school, where I learned to manage competing needs and not be fazed by much of anything.
4. I taught preschool gymnastics for several years. I can properly spot a backwards roll. I can also talk about my fantasy gymnastics team but sadly many (all?) children are uninterested in this.
5. I've quite a lot of experience managing screen time and all the complaining and yelling (not mine) that can entail, as well as helping kids manage media.
6. I have taken many a child,, up to four at once, for flu shots.I know how to hold em.
7. Once I dealt with a baby with pneumonia: took him for x-rays, managed appointments, gave him his breathing treatments. I've also spent a lot of time with sick children: taking temperatures, distributing medication, and yes. cleaning up vomit.
8. I've conducted thousands of art and science projects: painting, volcanoes, chemistry, mazes, and everything else you can think of (maybe not everything. I've never built a robot).
9. I have taken many a child--or group of children--to waterparks. We love waterparks.
10. Similarly, I have taken children to beaches, museums, nature centers, libraries, indoor playgrounds, ropes courses, hiking trails and dozens of other places. I am familiar with all of the best places in the Boston (and dc) metro area.
11. I've baked thousands of cookies with dozens of children. And cupcakes. And cake pops. And brownies.
12. I once cared for 2 children for 2 weeks while their parents and siblings were out of the country. They slept with me and attempted to follow me into the bathroom. I loved spending that time with them and treasure it, and after it was over I slept for thirteen hours.
13. I have spent dozens of nights with children while their parents were away, getting some actual sleep
14. I have changed diapers you would barely believe and have successfully potty trained many a child
15, I've managed homework for a variety of ages and grades.
16. I've worked with behavioral therapists.
17. I've handled tantrums and been bitten, whacked, smacked, kicked, strangled, hair-pulled, and somehow withstood it without yelling.
18. I've read thousands of books to many dozens of children. This is one of my very favorite things to do.
19. I have dealt with countless boo-boos: cuts, bruises, scrapes, wounds needing stitches, bee stings, a severe asthma attack that required holding a child as paramedics surrounded him; all unflappably.
20. I've snuggled, sung to, rocked to sleep, held, and hugged dozens of children, every one of them with all the love in my heart.
